Tales From The Airport Operations Crypt: One Day Out On Taxiway Delta.
Do big jets tear up airports? You bet, they do! All that can be done is to keep a step ahead of that wear and tear. Call it a scenario where the best defense is a good offense. However, not in this particular case.
Here is the result of an airfield upgrade, utilizing a sub-base of experimental fiberglass sheeting, under a fresh layer of asphalt, on a taxiway. The sub-base literally allowed the asphalt to slide on it, resulting in the surface tear seen in the photo.
Sometimes "Mr. Lowest-Bidder" does indeed end up costing more in the long-run.

If This Weren't So Ironic, It Would Be Funny. While Motorists Routinely Run Red Lights, Planes Making Emergency Landings Obey The Law.
On the evening of 09-23-2015, Piper PA-28-140, N43241, with student pilot and instructor aboard, made an emergency landing on Red Hill Avenue in Irvine, California. The landing was successful, and no one was hurt in the incident.
While the cause of the impromptu arrival was not reported, the "light" hearted part of the video is that the Piper did not run the red signal (note the green light in the video), as many drivers, unfortunately, do.
Thanks to Commander John Flores (Retired) for the heads-up on this story.
