His vision, daring, wisdom, and wit, opened up a new era of aviation, forever changing the face of commercial air travel.  He will certainly be missed.

God Speed, Joe.  We don't make them like you anymore.

The Seattle Times ran a great article on Mr. Sutter's life.

Breaking, And Very Interesting, News: Southwest Airlines Flight 3472 Suffers Apparent Intake Duct Failure. Media Reports It As An "Uncontained Fan Failure."

A Southwest Airlines flight from New Orleans to Orlando, Florida, was forced to make an emergency landing today in Pensacola, Florida, due to a "mechanical issue."

Photographs taken by passengers showed a large piece of one of the engines missing.

"We heard a loud boom at about 10,000 feet. Sounded like a 18 wheeler tire blowing and we started smelling smoke," passenger Stephanie Miller said.

Flight data showed that the plane descended from an altitude of 30,000 feet to 10,000 feet in just over eight minutes.

A spokesperson from the airline told ABC News that the plane, SW Flight 3472, suffered a "mechanical issue with the number one engine."

The pilot radioed to air traffic control that the plane had experienced an engine failure, and the flight was diverted, according to the airline, which noted that none of the 99 passengers or five crew members on board were injured.

Asiana Flight 214 Crash At San Francisco International Airport July 06, 2013: The Photos You Never Saw.

Shortly after the incident, we received a sizable cache of post-accident photos from the crash of Asiana Flt. 214 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).  The crew of the Boeing 777-200 executed a dangerouly low approach and stuck the seawall short of SFO's RWY 28L.  There were 187-injuries, and miraculously, only 3-fatalities.

These photos are not meant to glorify the horrific tragedy in any way.  We submit them purely as a case study of the violence of a major crash and the massive puzzle investigators faced.

Out of respect for all parties involved, we withheld the material for over three-years.
