Twofer Tuesday: The Mystery Of The An-124's Sitting At Ontario International Airport.
As of today, 09-29-2015, there are two An-124's currently sitting at the old UPS ramp at Ontario International Airport (ONT). One thing is known for sure; Having two of these birds on the ground for this long is costing someone a lot of money. The real mystery is why they are at ONT, why they are still there, and the very strange routing they had up to this point.
On 09-24-2015, the first An-124 arrived from El Centro (NJK). On 09-25-2015, a second An-124 arrived. Our roving reporter on the ground was only able to nab one registration, UR-82027, which arrived at ONT also via the aforementioned NJK. However, here is where it really gets interesting. Before arriving at NJK, the bird flew from Kiev (KBP) via Reykjavik (RKV).
The current story of these two wayward giants is interesting to say the least.
